Your questions, answered
What are hemp hearts?
Hemp hearts are nature’s most versatile superfood. With a light, nutty flavour and buttery undertones, they’re a great addition to both savoury and sweet meals or snacks.
Hemp hearts are made when the whole hemp seed is cracked and the outer shell (husk) is removed. The inside of the seeds (the hemp hearts, or dehulled hemp seeds) are selected by weight and structure. Hemp hearts are then sorted for purity and colour to produce a cream-coloured product, with minimal chlorophyll remaining.
Why do these hemp hearts taste different to other hemp hearts?
We use an optical sorter to take off the hemp seed shell, to ensure there’s no bitter taste.
Thanks to our specialised production facility, we’re able to supply our customers with the freshest hemp hearts, made using hemp seeds harvested in March. Try our hemp hearts to taste the difference.
Is your hemp gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free?
Yes!
We’re committed to delivering a wheat-free product, we have a specialised combine harvester that is used exclusively for hemp. Our certified organic processing factory processes our NZ-grown hemp. Our in-house food technologist ensures the standard for food safety and quality assurance is consistently met.
Do I need to cook the hemp hearts?
No, our hemp hearts are very tender and can be eaten raw. Add a cup to cooking, baking, smoothies – you name it!
Should I store my hemp hearts in the fridge?
Hemp hearts have a high oil content and to maintain their optimum condition should be stored to protect them form oxygen, heat and light. So in a sealed container in a cool, dark pantry works best. If your pantry is really hot with lots of light, keep them in the fridge.
